lineaige Terms of Service

Last updated: [DATE]

These terms govern your use of lineaige ("the service"), operated by [LEGAL NAME / ENTITY, JURISDICTION]. By creating an account you agree to them.

1. The service

lineaige is a genealogy research tool: you build an evidence-backed family tree, attach historical records, and work with a built-in AI research assistant. The service is currently in an invite-based beta; features may change as it develops.

2. Your account

You are responsible for your account and password. You must be at least [16/18]. One person per account. Keep your email current — it is how we reach you about security and billing.

3. Your content

You own your research. The tree data, records, images, and notes you add remain yours. You grant us the license needed to host, process, display, and back up that content in order to run the service — including sending relevant content to our AI provider to generate assistant responses — and no broader license.

You are responsible for what you upload: you must have the right to use the records and images you add, and to record information about living people. Do not upload content that is unlawful, that you have no right to use, or that is unrelated to genealogical research.

4. The AI assistant

The assistant is a research aid, not an authority. It can misread records, propose wrong relationships, and make mistakes; the service is designed so that its substantive changes wait for your approval, and you are responsible for what you approve into your tree. Nothing the assistant produces is professional genealogical certification, legal advice, or a guarantee of lineage.

5. Fees and billing

The service costs $30 / month [CONFIRM currency], billed by Stripe on a monthly cycle. Each subscription includes generous research usage; a fair-use allowance applies, and you can add more usage at close to our cost at any time. Prices may change with [30 days'] notice; the price in effect when you subscribed applies until then.

Cancelling. Cancel any time via the billing portal; your subscription runs to the end of the paid period. [REFUND POLICY — FOUNDER + COUNSEL: e.g. "If the service isn't for you, contact support@lineaige.com within N days of a charge for a refund."]

6. Acceptable use

Don't attempt to break, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the service; don't access other users' data; don't use the service to harass or to publish personal information about living people without their consent; don't resell access. We may rate-limit or suspend accounts that threaten the service or other users.

7. Sharing

If you invite someone to your tree, they can see it according to the role you grant. You are responsible for who you invite. If a member deletes their account, only their membership ends; if the tree's only member deletes their account, the tree is deleted.

8. Termination

You can cancel your subscription at any time via the billing portal, then delete your account from your Account page (see the Privacy Policy for what deletion does). An account with an active subscription cannot be deleted until the subscription is cancelled. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with notice where practical. On termination we will not charge further; [COUNSEL: refund treatment of the balance of a paid period on OUR termination].

9. Service changes and availability

This is a small, actively developed service. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We will give reasonable notice of material feature removals. Back up matters to you: you can export your tree as a GEDCOM file at any time (⋯ menu → Export tree), a standard format readable by other genealogy software, independent of this service.

10. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid in the [12] months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. [COUNSEL: conform to the governing jurisdiction's consumer law — some of this may not be enforceable against consumers in Canada.]

11. Governing law

[JURISDICTION — COUNSEL'S CALL, likely the operator's province/state.]

12. Changes to these terms

We will post changes here, update the date, and email account holders about material changes. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance.
